More than 40 registered participants enjoyed picturesque scenery, trail rides through the country and socializing during the 20th annual Alida Archives and Library Ride-a-Long August 21 and 22.

Jim and Elaine Hyde’s Coyote Springs Ranch once again served as the start-finish point for the fundraiser.

Most of the people involved were horseback riders, but there was also one horse-drawn wagon, a tractor-driven trailer and four ATVs. They ventured on the assigned route through pastures, road allowances and along the Auburnton Creek Valley.

Once they arrived back at the ranch, a beef/pork supper was served for about 90 people.

Ten people entered the annual chili challenge. Lisa Eaton of Arcola was the winner. Lori and Debbie Fuller of Alida finished second and Shelly Cowan of Alida was the other runner-up.

Awards were handed out after supper. Kenn Beggs of Estevan was the oldest person, and the teamster of the ride. Dylan Scheerschmidt of Oxbow and Adam Cowan of Estevan were the youngest participants. Shana Spas of Beausejour, Manitoba was the furthest traveler among those who completed the ride. April Junk of Alida was the individual with the most pledges, and Tim and Shelly Cowan collected the most pledges among families.

Don Mehler, Bob Thompson and Jim Hyde supplied musical entertainment throughout the evening.

A pancake breakfast and lunch were served on August 22. There was also an optional mini-ride.

People from across the Prairies converged on the ranch for the ride.

Approximately $3,200 was raised for the Alida Archives and Library during this year’s Ride-a-Long.
