The Southeast Regional College will be hosting its 12th annual Swing for Scholarships golf tournament on Friday, September 17 at the Weyburn Golf Club.
Each year the event raises funds for the College’s Centennial Merit Scholarship program, which provides valuable scholarships to full-time students attending Southeast Regional College.
Southeast Regional College president and CEO Craig Brown said he is extremely pleased with the increasing amount of support the tournament receives each year.
“This golf tournament is one of our major fundraisers and we are very grateful to all the participants and sponsors who support the college and our students. Our scholarships provide the financial means for many of our students to pursue postsecondary training in southeast Saskatchewan,” says Brown.
The Swing for Scholarships Centennial Merit Scholarships are administered on behalf of the college by the Southeast Education Foundation. Executive director Ian MacLennan works to build on the number of scholarships and bursaries available to students, and promotes the importance of local education and training to potential donors.
As a result, the total amount of scholarships and bursaries awarded to the college’s students has grown to $40,000 annually.
MacLennan emphasizes that the Centennial Merit Scholarships help leverage funding from the provincial government to assist Southeast Regional College students.
“The Centennial Merit Scholarship Program matches funds that are raised through local events, and because of this matching program, our Swing for Scholarships golf tournament becomes an event that many students can benefit from.”
The “Swing for Scholarships” golf tournament includes 18 holes of Texas scramble golf, a power cart, a steak supper, and prizes. The registration fee is $75 per golfer and the tournament will commence with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m.
Information on the tournament is available from Dave Harazny at the college’s Weyburn office, or on the college’s website.
The deadline to register is Monday, September 13.
