Long-time Saskatchewan Roughrider Dan Rashovich was impressed with the support shown for football in Estevan during a visit to the community on Saturday.
“I commend all of you for supporting all of these young athletes,” said Rashovich, who spoke during opening ceremonies for Football Day in Estevan. “It takes a huge commitment by the families and on the players’ part to stick with it, and to create something like this.”
Rashovich also had words for the different teams in the Estevan Minor Football system. He noted that he didn’t play football until he was in Grade 11.
“Football is a great game,” said Rashovich. “It teaches you a lot of things. It teaches you a lot about being committed to something. If you’re committed to something, and if you have a dream – and I think all of you young players probably have a dream – then that’s where it starts.”
Rashovich holds the CFL record for most career games by a linebacker. He also holds the Riders’ record for most career tackles.
