Significant donations for football in Estevan

(L-R) ECS football coach Marco Ricci, parents of ECS football representative Brenda Lyons, Rotary Club of Estevan president Norm Nicol and ECS vice-principal Walter Wood participated in a cheque presentation.

Football in Estevan received a significant boost Saturday, thanks to several donations that were made during the annual Football Day in Estevan.

Dr. Dean Chow announced a $50,000 contribution to Estevan Minor Football (EMF). In recognition of his support, the EMF’s new practice field will be known as Chow Field.

Chow said he wanted to be part of something that would keep local youth busy and active, while learning about the importance of commitment.

The Rotary Club of Estevan presented a $25,000 cheque that will be used for the new practice field at the Estevan Comprehensive School.

Gem Well Maintenance has donated $10,000 to ECS football and the EMF, Meyers Norris Penny presented a $5,000 cheque to ECS football, and Synovus Energy donated $1,000.

The return of football to Estevan has been a huge success, EMF president Brian Senchuk said, thanks to the support of many people. The focus is now on players and coaches, instead of facilities, Senchuk said.
