High-scoring forward Devin Mitzner won't be playing with the Estevan Bruins during the upcoming SJHL season.
Mitzner was reacquired by the Bruins from the Dauphin Kings in June. But Bruins head coach-GM Karry Biette has revealed that Mitzner, who hails from Strathmore, Alberta, will be traded to a team in his home province.
Biette spoke with the Mitzner family earlier this summer.
“Everybody is in agreement that it's in the best for Devin to stay closer to home and play somewhere there,” said Biette. “We're actively trying to make that happen, and we're going to make sure we get good value for Devin, but at the same time, I want to get him going (to another team). Hopefully before camp we can have something wrapped up.”
The fall training camp starts September 3.
The Bruins initially acquired Mitzner in December of last year in exchange for Brody Haygarth. Mitzner didn't report to the Bruins right away, and played just five road games for the Bruins before Christmas. He was shipped to the Manitoba league's Dauphin Kings for future considerations shortly after Christmas.
When the Bruins couldn’t make another arrangement involving Mitzner, his rights reverted to Estevan.
