Ron Ror, the manager and executive producer for the Souris Valley Theatre, was disappointed with the attendance for the summer theatre this season.
Ror wouldn’t divulge the exact numbers for the theatre in 2010, but he wasn’t happy with the turnout for both “Corner Gassed” and “Rhyme Rustler: The Ballad of Robert Service.” He noted that “Corner Gassed” attracted more people, but the number of spectators for that play was lower than expected.
The turnout left him wondering whether Estevan still cares about the summer theatre, which has been around since 1990.
“Corner Gassed,” a spoof of the popular made-in-Saskatchewan television show, opened the season. It ran from July 7 to 25. “Rhyme Rustler: The Ballad of Robert Service,” the two-man play that told the stories of the Yukon adventures of the great Canadian poet, was in Estevan from July 28 to August 15.
“I thought they were both excellent shows,” said Ror. “As good as, or better, than anything we’ve ever done.”
Ror said that people need to support the theatre, or they will risk losing an attraction that has been part of the community for many years.
