The South East Sask. Roller Derby Association (SESRDA) will hold a “fresh meat” recruitment day on August 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lignite Miners Centre in Estevan.
The afternoon will start with an overview of flat track roller derby and how the game is played. SESRDA representatives will discuss equipment and requirements to join the league.
Members of the SESRDA’s team, the Hillbilly Hurt, as well as the Regina Pile O' Bones club, will be on hand to give a demonstration of what roller derby is all about.
The SESRDA will have equipment – skates and pads – on hand for any women who want to give the sport a try.
Previous skating or roller derby experience is not necessary. Most women on the Hurt had never skated before joining SESRDA in March.
The recruitment day is open to women of all ages, shapes, sizes or athletic ability, but women must be at least 18 years old to join the team.
The team’s coach and one of the refs will be on hand to talk to people interested in that aspect of the sport.
