Ron Ror, the manager and executive producer for the Souris Valley Theatre, was upset with the attendance for the summer theatre this season.
Ror wouldn’t divulge the exact numbers for this year’s theatre season, but he was disappointed with the turnout for both “Corner Gassed” and “Rhyme Rustler: The Ballad of Robert Service.” He noted that “Corner Gassed” attracted more people, but the number of spectators was still lower than expected.
The turnout left him wondering whether Estevan still cares about the summer theatre, which celebrated its 21st season this year.
“Corner Gassed,” a satire of the hit made-in-Canada television show, opened the season. It ran from July 7 to 25. “Rhyme Rustler: The Ballad of Robert Service,” which tells the stories of the Yukon adventures of the famed Canadian poet, was in Estevan from July 28 to August 15.
While attendance was down this year, both plays were excellent, Ror said.
