Maskull Lasserre says that his love of music, and his desire to look beyond musical instruments, play an important role in “Volume,” a sculpture exhibit that is currently on display at the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum (EAGM).
Lasserre discussed “Volume” during an artist reception last week.
“I played the violin for many years, and so there is a sensibility that comes through an experience of playing an instrument,” said Lasserre. “I don't play anymore, but it still finds its way through in my approach to making sculptures.”
Violins are incorporated into two of his sculptures. There are also three sculptures that involve pianos.
Lasserre hopes that people will ponder the concept of an instrument's utility and function, as well as its aesthetics, when viewing the exhibit.
“Volume” will remain on display at the EAGM's Gallery 1 until September 30.
