The inaugural Bow Valley Jamboree was a success, said Shirley Galloway, who was on the committee for the event.
An estimated crowd of 320 people attended the music festival August 1 at the Bow Valley Park south of Oxbow. A wide variety of music was offered.
“We had non-stop music from about 12:30 p.m. until after midnight,” said Galloway.
Jazz, blue grass, blues, country rock, rock and acoustic guitar were among the different genres offered at the jamboree.
Oxbow-area band Jimmy G and the Cable Guys was the headline act. Country rock band Shifty Morgan and Juno Award winning blues slide guitarist Ken Hamm were among the other featured performers.
TheJamboree was promoted as a family event, Galloway said, so in addition to the music, there were children’s activities such as face-painting, hoola hoop contests and tractor pulls.
Organizers have received positive feedback about the event, Galloway said.
Proceeds from the event will be directed towards the Oxbow swimming pool, as well as next year’s Jamboree. Galloway said the 2011 Jamboree will be on July 31.
