Comic book illustrator and writer Evan Quiring will be at the Estevan Public Library on Friday, August 13 and Saturday, August 14, to conduct a writing workshop.
“This workshop with Evan will be unique from others we have done in the past,” said library adult program coordinator Taren Trew. “We are going to cover both art and story line, talking about how important it is that they reflect one another. The focus of this workshop is how to put a comic or graphic novel together from beginning to end, and our goal will be to do that by the end of the workshop.”
The workshop will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on August 13, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 14. During this time, participants will work in groups to discuss character creation, page layouts and art, storyline, plot development, and publication.
The workshop with Quiring will be free to the public and it is for those 15 years of age and older. The registration deadline is August 9.
“You don’t have to have art experience to take part in this workshop,” said Trew. “There will be something for everyone in it. It will be a lot of fun for anyone who maybe wants to explore a new writing format, wants to pursue the comic or graphic novel industry, or …is interested in comics or graphic novels.”
Quiring has more than a decade of experience creating posters for bands and drawing for comic books. He recently completed the first issue of his first creator-owned project, Los Luchadores Mysteriosos, which tracks the adventures of masked luchadore wrestlers as they fight crime, monsters and space aliens in the early 1960s.
