Riders Win Ugly

The Saskatchewan Roughriders beat the Edmonton Eskimos 24-20 in a wild game that was exciting from start to finish. In the second quarter, running back Wes Cates broke free for an 83-yard run to set up the Riders for a Hugh Charles touchdown. Quarterback Darian Durant attempted 28 passes and completed 15 for 238 yards with a touchdown and an interception. In celebration of their 100th anniversary, the Riders wore black and burgundy jerseys, from their past, for the game. The Riders record is now 3-0 and their next game is against the Calgary Stampeders.

Other scores from week 3 were: the Hamilton Tiger-Cats took out the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 28-7, the Toronto Argonauts upset the Calgary Stampeders 27-24 and the Montreal Alouettes edged the B.C. Lions 16-12.

In the Arena Football League, the Cleveland Gladiators beat the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz 44-39 in a close game. The Gladiators were down 13-0 before they scored 21 unanswered points to make the half-time score 21-19. The Gladiators’ record is 7-8 and they will close out the 2010 season at home against the Milwaukee Iron.

Other scores from Week 16 were: the Spokane Shock got past the Iowa Barnstormers 48-42; the Arizona Rattlers hammered the Utah Blaze 48-20; the Jacksonville Sharks edged the Tampa Bay Storm 49-47; the Tulsa Talons beat the Alabama Vipers 61-48; and the Chicago Rush defeated the Dallas Vigilantes 65-52.

In the Western Major Baseball League, the Regina Red Sox hammered Medicine Hat Mavericks 7-0. The Red Sox are alone in first place with a 26-11 record.

In Major League Baseball, the New York Yankees took two of three games from the Tampa Bay Rays; the Yankees record is 58-33 and they are leading the American League East.

At the Calgary Stampede, Kelly Sutherland won the Rangeland Derby Championship chuckwagon race. He finished ahead of his brother Kirk Sutherland to win the $100,000 in prize money.
