Often times those of us in small towns or small cities such as Estevan complain, “There is nothing to do here!” I know I’ve said it. Usually my response it to just plan things and make “things to do here” but I’ve come to learn that if I do a little searching, our community and surrounding area actually do have things going on.
As I was listing off the activities for the week that we were inviting people to join us in, a friend jokingly commented to the group “Don’t you know Mo is our events coordinator?” (or something to that effect). In actuality it’s pretty much on target and I enjoy my role. This week I’m going to let you in on how to hone in on all the activities going on in our area.
We actually have a great resource in www.sasklifestyles.com If you haven’t been to the website you should really check it out. Under community you’ll find events. On it is listed various “non profit” activities that occur during the month. If you check out June’s events there is pretty much an activity on every day of the week – so much for nothing going on! A wakeboard tournament, fishing derby, movie night, steak supper and free concert are just a few of the items on the list. So, when you’re bored or planning out your week make sure you check it out!
Another thing I did this spring was do an internet search for “fairs” in other communities. The Estevan Fair is June 21-23. The Divide County Fair is actually held in Crosby ND this weekend! Crosby also hosts a Threshing Bee weekend in July that has a parade of one of the largest collections of steam powered farm equipment. My son is going to love it!
So, as you can see, there is plenty going on in the South East and you just have to do a little coordinating of your own to take part in it! Have fun!
