The United Way of Estevan promoted the organization’s third annual Day of Caring at Monday’s meeting of Estevan City Council.
President James Trobert and board member Gwen Densley said organizations and individuals can submit projects that need to be completed during the Day of Caring, which will be on Wednesday, May 19 this year.
“You will work with individuals that will benefit from projects that might not otherwise be completed because of a lack of manpower, physical ability or time,” said Densley.
An ideal project would be one that could be completed in one day, and make a meaningful difference.
Volunteers will be needed to complete the tasks.
“As a volunteer, you could be painting, delivering groceries to shut-ins, doing yard-work, landscaping, washing windows or simply visiting with a shut-in,” said Densley. “These projects will be fun, and allow for interaction between volunteers, agencies, staff and clients.”
The Day of Caring is an excellent opportunity to showcase the importance of volunteers in the community, Densley said.
During last year’s Day of Caring, several local businesses paid their employees to spend time working at Day of Caring projects.
The event has grown every year, Densley said.
Volunteers can work for one hour, or for a few hours, or for the entire day. There will be an appreciation barbecue during the noon hour as a gesture of thanks for the volunteers, Densley said.
The deadline to submit an application for a project is April 30.
