The current exhibit at the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum's (EAGM) Gallery II features a unique community participation element.
Rob Bos' “Art at Home” exhibit has pictures of his tree paintings in the homes of 15 lucky EAGM members. The names of EAGM members were entered into a lottery. Each person whose name was drawn was allowed to select a painting that they wanted in their home.
“I sent, from Chicago, 15 paintings that I made there while I was in school,” said Bos.
The stipulation was that Bos would be allowed to visit the home to talk to the homeowner about the painting, and take a photograph of where the painting is located.
Bos arrived in the community in late February to start taking the pictures. The photographs were expanded, and they comprise the “Art at Home” exhibit.
An opening reception was held on March 5.
“It's a very literal bringing of the community together, and presenting the community's walls within the art gallery,” said Bos. “Part of my intention and my thought process here was to be able to create a system of mutual generosity in a way that everyone gets satisfied, but maybe not in the same way.”
Bos said he wants to bring together tradition and innovation through his projects. He believes he has done that through “Art in Home,” and he hopes he has created an exhibit that is unique when compared to his other works.
