The current exhibit at the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum's (EAGM) Gallery II has a unique element.
Rob Bos' “Art at Home” exhibit has pictures of his tree paintings in the homes of people in southeast Saskatchewan. EAGM members had their names inserted into a lottery. Those whose names were drawn were allowed to select a Bos painting that they wanted in their homes.
The stipulation was that Bos would visit the home to photograph the painting's location. He also spoke with the homeowner.
“I give over aesthetic judgment to the receiver, in that they may frame and hang the work as they like in their home,” Bos said in his artist's statement. “This creates a surprise for me as I get to see my paintings framed by different lived-in homes, and in the process I get to meet the people living there.”
By presenting photographs of his paintings on the walls of the community, Bos believes he has created a dialogue between himself as the artist, the museum members as patrons and the community as a art museum.
