The Estevan and Area Literacy Group will host their third annual Literacy Festival on Saturday, March 13, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Souris Valley Aquatic and Leisure Centre’s Multi-Purpose Room.
Literacy group coordinator Kathryn Roberton said there will be activities for people of all ages, but the literacy festival will appeal mostly to children and people who have families.
Author Sharon Plumb Hamilton will be a guest reader at the event. Plumb Hamilton wrote the children’s book “Bill Bruin Shovels his Roof.” Her next book, “Draco’s Child,” is geared towards young adults. It will be released on March 31.
Roberton said she hopes that Lampman author Maureen Ulrich, author of the book “Power Play,” will also be in attendance.
In addition to the author readings, there will be family literacy games such as Twister Spell-a-Word, which Roberton said is very popular, and family bowling. There will also be games involving crafts and books that will be a lot of fun, Roberton said.
Young people from the Ocean Man First Nation will be attending the event, she said.
Door prizes and giveaways will also be part of the festival.
