Stars for Saskatchewan will bring violinist Jean-Sebastien Roy and pianist Mathieu Gaudet from Prairie Debut to St. Paul’s United Church in Estevan on Sunday, March 21, at 2:30 p.m.
The winner in 2006 of a 1717 Windsor-Weinstein Stradivari violin lent by The Canada Council for the Arts Musical Instrument Bank, Roy has received numerous awards, including: the Prix Joseph-Rouleau from the Montreal International Musical Competition in 2003 and 2006, and the prestigious Prix d’Europe in 2006.
He has performed in concerts and in recitals around the world. He recently performed with the Orchestre Métropolitain under Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and he was a guest soloist with Les Violons du Roy and l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France.
Gaudet is quickly establishing himself in the musical world for his interpretations and virtuoso technique. Since his debut in Baltimore, Maryland with Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2, he has been in demand as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician.
His many awards include first prize at the 2000 Glenn Gould School Competition in Toronto and at the Harrison Winters Competition in Baltimore.
These two young musicians have prepared a program that includes works from their classical violin and piano repertoire.
