The Estevan Curling Club had a special guest during their mixed senior’s curling league on Thursday.
Camille Villeneuve, an 82-year-old man from Quebec, has played in nearly 700 curling rinks, which is a world record.
Villeneuve said hockey was his sport for much of his life, and he didn’t try curling until a teacher’s bonspiel when he was in his late 30s. He qualified for Quebec’s senior men’s provincial tournament several times, and he advanced as far as the final.
He played in his 100th rink a few years ago, and at that point, he decided he would try to curl in as many curling clubs as he could. Villeneuve has played at rinks in Canada, the U.S. and Scotland.
The Estevan Curling Club and the City of Estevan presented him with pins.
He also played in a league Thursday night in Lampman.
